Manton Bay
Manton Bay was good in winning the one-mile rated race at Killarney on Friday. He travelled well into his race for Luke McAteer, he picked up well on the outside, and he stayed on strongly to win nicely, probably with a fair bit more in hand than the half-length winning margin.
David Marnane's horse has a nice progressive profile. He had probably put up a career-best performance in coming from the rear to finish second to Dark Viper in a decent nine-furlong handicap at Leopardstown in July, and this was a step forward from that, racing off the same mark. He obviously didn't mind dropping back down in trip to a mile but, a half-brother to stayer Whirling Dervish, and to Gaillefontaine, who won over a mile and six furlongs, and out of Synergy, who won a Group 3 race over 10 and a half furlongs, he should be able to step back up in trip now. This was just his seventh race, and he should be sufficiently progressive to be able to cope with a 5lb hike to a mark of 92.
