Curracloe
Curracloe was sent off as joint favourite for the Group 3 Darley Fillies' Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday, but she couldn’t have been much more impressive than she was in winning. Settled just behind the leaders early on by Ben Coen, she moved up nicely on the far side of old adversary Alpine Wedding on the run inside the two-furlong marker, she led on the run to the furlong pole, and she cleared away well to win impressively.
It was a nice step forward by Johnny Murtagh's filly from her racecourse debut, when she won a seven-furlong maiden on yielding ground at Gowran Park. She was a big price that day, and the Johnny Murtagh debutantes almost always come on for the experience, so it was significant that she won as impressively as she did. She should improve again on this and, out of a mare who won over 10 furlongs, a half-sister to Pomology, who won a Lancashire Oaks and was only just beaten in a Prix Vermeille, she should improve again for stepping up to a mile. She is exciting.
