Flourescence
Flourescence was the horse to take out of the Listed Rous Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. Slowly away and taken back early on by Danny Tudhope, she travelled well through her race, but the gaps didn't open up until late. Still only 10th of the 11 runners passing the furlong marker, she picked up well when she got the gaps, and she finished off her race strongly to get up for fourth place close home, just a length and a half behind the winner, the Portland Handicap winner Air Force One.
This race wasn't a strongly-run race for the distance on the ground. The pace held up well, the winner and the runner-up were in the first five from flagfall, and it was difficult for the hold-up horses to get involved. Flourescence made up lots of ground late on, she was 0.27secs faster than her fastest rival through the final furlong. Ed Bethell's filly has raced 15 times now, but she is only four and, winner of a listed race at Ayr on her previous run, her last two runs are probably the two best runs over her life. A stiff, truly-run race over five furlongs is probably ideal for her, she goes well at Ascot and at Ayr, and she is versatile in terms of ground conditions. She will be of interest if she races again between now and the end of the season.
