Realign
Realign did well to get as close as he got in the Challenge Cup at Ascot on Saturday. Dropped in from stall seven and moved towards the near side, in behind runners, he was still only 15th of the 18 runners passing the two-furlong marker. He had to be brave to squeeze into a gap on the run to the furlong marker but, once into the gap, he ran into a little bit of a cul de sac, and Pat Dobbs had to ease off for a few strides. Once the gap developed though and, asked for his effort again, he finished off his race strongly to get up for third place behind Mezcala and Moonfall. He was fastest or joint fastest through each of the last three furlongs.
This was one of the best runs of Realign's career, and it was proof that he could stay seven furlongs. On his only previous try over the trip, two years ago as a juvenile, William Haggas' horse finished third in the Convivial Maiden at York. A dual winner over six furlongs, it may be that seven furlongs will prove to be his optimum trip and, by Blue Bolt's sire Blue Point and out of a mare who won over seven furlongs, he could even get a mile. His best form is on fast ground, but he handles easy ground too, and he will be of interest if he runs again this season.
