Jaffonnien ran better than his finishing position suggests in the For Auction Novice Hurdle behind Academy Sir Harry at Navan on Sunday. This was his first run over hurdles and his first outing since he ran out an impressive winner of the bumper on Hennessy day at Leopardstown last February. He jumped well on Sunday and travelled well on the outside before lack of a run seemed to tell, and Davy Russell wasn't hard on him once his winning chance had gone. It is interesting that the wily Arthur Moore thinks enough of him to give him an entry in the Royal Bond, and he could progress sufficiently to take a high rank among this season's novice hurdlers.
