No prizes for originality, but Jack The Giant looked a little rusty in the early stages of the two-mile handicap chase at Ascot on Saturday before he warmed to his task and ran out an easy winner in the end, himself and the useful Lord Henry coming clear. Trainer Nicky Henderson cited the Ryanair Chase as his ultimate goal this season, which looks more than plausible at this stage. The bookmakers are giving nothing away by quoting odds of no better than 6/1, but at least he is a likely runner, and Festival targets for his three main market rivals, Tidal Bay, Voy Por Ustedes and Noland, are in a state of flux.
