Ambobo

Finally, Ambobo ran a nice race to finish fourth behind Aitmatov in the Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas on Saturday. This was the Kingmambo gelding's first start since he was pulled up when favourite for a conditions chase at Killarney last May, and he kept on well from out the back to take fourth spot on the run-in.

A really useful hurdler (he was well fancied for the 2006 World Hurdle when with Arnould Chaille-Chaille), Ambobo was a high class novice chaser last season. He would have been a lot closer than sixth in the Jewson Chase last March off a mark of 136 had he not made a fairly bad mistake at the last fence. He has obviously had his problems, but this was a promising run, he has still only run six times over fences, and a rating of 134 in that sphere may under-estimate his ability.
