Midday

Midday ran a nice race to finish second to the Derby outsider Debussy in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom on Wednesday. Settled just behind the pace by Tom Queally, she got a gap on the rail at the top of the home straight when leader Saint Arch moved off it, and Queally decided to kick on and make the best of her way home. She was reeled in fairly easily by the winner Debussy, but she did keep on well to the line even after she was passed, and she may have fared better if she had been ridden with a little more restraint on her seasonal debut. She is by sprinter Oasis Dream, but she is out of the Kingmambo mare Midsummer, who won over a mile and three and who is a half-sister to Oaks winner Reams Of Verse and Eclipse winner Elmaamul, so there is every chance that Midday will stay a mile and a half. She may not win the Oaks, but 50/1 about her looks big, and she could be interesting in something like the Musidora next if ridden with more restraint.
