Star Ruby
Star Ruby was well backed before the 10-furlong fillies' maiden at Sandown on Friday on her racecourse debut, and she did it well, battling on gamely under Alan Munro to get the better of Hidden Brief, who did have the benefit of having had a run last season, the pair of them coming eight lengths clear of their rivals. The time of the race was just faster than the time that Above Average clocked in landing the Group 3 Classic Trial over the same course and distance two hours earlier, when they weren't hanging about and the winner was all out, and this could be a useful maiden. The runner-up Hidden Brief is also interesting, but Star Ruby could be high class. She is out of a half-sister to 1000 Guineas winner Matiya, and she could easily be a Group class filly.
