Debussy
Debussy looked good in landing the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom last Wednesday. Settled out the back in the early stages, he made nice ground around the outside to get into a challenging position two furlongs out. Jimmy Fortune didn't panic when the filly Midday went for home on the far rail at that point. He obviously thought that he had plenty of horse under him, and so it proved. He picked up Midday relatively easily inside the final furlong and ran on strongly to win well.
John Gosden supplemented the son of Dieses to the Derby at the latest forfeit stage, and that might not have been a total waste of money. He looked good in landing his maiden on the Polytrack at Lingfield last month, and he followed up impressively here, proving that he had no difficulty with Epsom's contours in the process. His dam won over nine furlongs at two, and she is a half-sister to Belmez, so Debussy should have no difficulty getting the extra two furlongs of the Derby. Current odds of 25/1 about him look fair.
