Les Fazzani
Lez Fazzani ran a fine race to finish second to the highly progressive Suzi's Decision in a 12-furlong listed race for fillies at Haydock on Saturday. Always in the van, Stephen Donohoe kicked her into the lead at the three furlong pole and immediately had all of his rivals under pressure, with the exception of the winner. In fairness, the Kevin Ryan-trained filly had no answer to Suzi's Decision's finishing surge, but she kept on admirably to cling on to second place in unfavourable circumstances.
The distance was too far for Les Fazzani and the ground was too fast. She has been tried over a mile and a half four times now, and she has come up short each time. On Saturday, she only just held on to second place from Cassique Lady. She has never raced on good to firm or faster ground, and she has yet to win in four tries on good ground. Her five wins have been gained over distances from a mile to 10 furlongs, and her three wins on turf have been on soft or heavy ground. Like Suzi's Decision, she is also in the Noblesse Stakes, but that is also over a mile and a half and she would only be of interest in that if it were to come up soft and if it looked like there was going to be no early pace. She may be running out of options for now as the weather improves and the ground gets faster, but she is worth bearing in mind in the autumn when the rains arrive again.
