Jargelle

Jargelle showed a lot of speed for four and a half furlongs of the five-furlong listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown on Saturday. You would have expected Noble Storm to have led from his draw on the far rail in stall one, but even he couldn't go fast enough to lead Jargelle. It looked like the Kheleyf filly was going to last all the way home - she traded at 1.15 in-running - but she had no answer to the late surge of Triple Aspect on the outside, who had been taken off his feet early on. Even so, Jargelle held onto second place quite well. Without the winner in the race, she would have been an impressive winner.

This was Jargelle's first run for Kevin Ryan. She was a really fast filly last year as a juvenile for William Haggas and, although she didn't seem to stay the six furlongs of the Cheveley Park at Newmarket in October, she was still thought good enough to be be allowed contest it. Sandown's five furlongs is a stiff five. She will be much better off over an easy five. York, Epsom or Goodwood would suit her well. She could be one for the Group 3 King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood at the end of July, a race in which three-year-olds can do well.
