Lesson In Humility
Lesson In Humility ran another huge race to finish third in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. Karl Burke's filly came out of stall 10, and raced handily up the centre of the track throughout. She kept on remarkably well to finish third in front of monsters of the sprinting world JJ The Jet Plane and Sacred Kingdom, and first of those who raced handily, with the winner and the second, Art Connoisseur and Cannonball, coming from well off the pace.
At the two-furlong pole, when Andrew Elliott asked Lesson In Humility to go on again, it actually looked like she might win the race before Art Connoisseur came up the near rail. She deserves huge credit for this, and she is one for the July Cup shortlist if she takes her chance in it. Burke is talking about running her in the Summer Stakes against her own sex instead, and she will take some beating in that. I would like to see her take on the colts again, however. She may still be under-rated against them.
