Bushman

Bushman showed a really smart turn of foot to land a Class 2 conditions race at Newmarket on Saturday. Held up in the early stages by Darryll Holland, he found a nice gap on the far side as Mutajarred weakened at the two-furlong pole and, once he got into the clear, he quickened away really impressively to pull clear under just a hands and heels drive. The race may not have been the strongest in the end, given that warm favourite Cesare failed to sparkle away from his beloved Ascot, and the early pace wasn't overly strong, but there was a lot to like about the manner in which David Simcock's gelding came away from his rivals up the hill. The handicapper has given him just 2lb for this, which may be lenient, and he could be a Cambridgeshire horse as long as there is cut in the ground.
