Pyrrha

Pyrrha continued her progression with an impressive performance to land a Class 3 fillies' handicap at Newmarket on Friday evening. Weak in the market all day beforehand, Alan Munro quickly had Pyrrha settled nicely on the near side of the field of nine. Moving up on the stands side at the two-furlong pole, the daughter of Pyrus showed a fine turn of foot to quickly go clear of her rivals, and she stayed on really well up the hill to maintain her advantage and win easily. The race was weakened a little by the fact that the well-backed favourite, Glen Molly, didn't run her race at all, but Pyrrha beat the rest of them really well and the time was good. She is really progressive, she was an unlucky fourth in a good Newmarket handicap in June and she has now won her subsequent two races. The handicapper has hiked her up another 9lb for her latest win, but it may not stop her progression. She is a wholly likeable sort and she could go in again in a higher grade.
