Soneva
Soneva was really impressive in landing a Group 3 fillies' contest over a mile at Deauville on Thursday. Last into the home straight, she made nice progress up the near side, widest of all. She had her ears pricked a furlong and a half out when Soumillon had to take a tug and, despite being hampered a little by the runner-up Emergency, she swamped her rivals with an impressive turn of foot to win, eased down, by two lengths.
Fifth in the French Guineas back in May, when she was held up out the back and just stayed on to get to within three lengths of the winner Elusive Wave at the line, it was disappointing that she couldn't beat Emergency in a listed race at Deauville in July, but she gained her deserved revenge here, and the turn of foot that she displayed in so doing was impressive. She can step up on this now, and she is worth a shot at Group 2 company or even Group 1 company again against her own sex.
