Angel's Pursuit
Angel's Pursuit ran another game race to chase home Awzaan in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. Smartly away, Richard Hughes was happy to settle Richard Hannon's colt just in behind the front rank in the early stages. He got a little tapped for toe when the big guns Radiohead and Awzaan quickened up on either side of the seven-horse group, and he got caught in behind the fading early leader Stargaze a little as he dropped back. It did take him a little while to get going but, once he did, he finished with purpose to take second place behind Awzaan. He was never going to catch the winner, there is no doubt that the best horse in the race won it, but there was a lot to like about the manner in which Angel's Pursuit stayed on past Radiohead and Quarrel to take second place. This was another step forward on his win in a decent conditions race at Doncaster on his previous start and, although he has raced nine times now, he remains progressive. He is in the valuable Totepool two-year-old Trophy at Redcar next Saturday, and he would be of interest in that if he took his chance.
