Kyllachy Star

Mentioned here before after he won at Sandown on June, Kyllachy Star is worthy of another mention after he ran an eye-catching race to finish fourth behind his stable companion Harrison George in a seven-furlong handicap at Ayr on Saturday. Held up in last place off an unsuitably slow pace by Tony Hamilton, he was still last but travelling well when they passed the two-furlong pole. Still second last passing the furlong pole, he was pulled to the outside and stayed on well under no more than a hands and heels ride to take fifth place, closest at the finish. This was a much better run than his previous run, when he disappointed on really soft ground behind Poet in the Irish Cambridgeshire over a mile, a distance that probably stretches his stamina beyond its limit. He is at his best over seven furlongs when there is a decent early pace off which he can quicken, and ideally with a little bit of cut in the ground. He is looking fairly exposed now, but he is still handicapped to win a race like this on his current mark of 89, a Class 3 handicap, once he has his conditions.
