Our Monty
Our Monty posted another impressive performance, his second in three days, to win the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle at Punchestown on Wednesday. This was his second win in three days. The handicapper raised him 19lb for his win at Limerick on Sunday, and he got in here off just a 6lb penalty, so Willie Mullins decided to run him again. This was just his second start for Mullins, he is by Montjeu, out of She's Our Mare, winner of the 1999 Cambridgeshire for Tony Martin, and there could be significant improvement to come. Interestingly, he has a rating of 109 over fences, 8lb lower than his new hurdles rating, so he would be of interest if Mullins decided to send him down the handicap chasing route, but he jumps hurdles so well that even his new rating of 117 could underestimate his ability in that sphere.
