Give It Time

Give It Time ran a cracker to finish second to Voler La Vedette in a good listed mares' hurdle at Punchestown on Thursday. Settled back in midfield by Andrew Leigh in the early stages of the race, she made nice progress around the outside going around the home turn. At that point, Voler La Vedette was obviously travelling easier on the far side, but Give It Time put it up to her, and it wasn't until the winner pinged the last that the result was put beyond doubt. Even so, Give It Time kept on well to finish second, leaving some useful mares, including the well-fancied Serpentaria in her wake.

Give It Time won this contest last year, but she had had a run beforehand last season. This was her seasonal debut, and it is reasonable to expect her to come on from it. She kept the very best of company last season, finishing third in both the Grade 2 Lismullen Hurdle and the Grade 2 Tara Hurdle against the geldings before winning the listed mares' contest at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival. She will be better for this run, she will be better on even softer ground and she will be better when stepped up to two and a half miles again, and she should be in for a lucrative time of it this winter.
