Radio Wave
Radio Wave ran a nice race on her racecourse debut to finish third in a one-mile Yarmouth maiden on Tuesday. Held up well out the back in the early stages, she had to be shaken along a half a mile out, but she was soon back on the bridle with nowhere to go when the pace quickened two and a half furlongs out.
The splits did come, and she picked up nicely among horses to come through to finish third, just two lengths behind the winner, the Cheveley Park/Michael Stoute/Ryan Moore Hymnsheet, who was also making her debut, closest at finish. However, whereas Hymnsheet was sent off the 100/30 joint-favourite, Radio Wave was allowed go off at 11/1 (although she did open up at 20/1, so she wasn't altogether unfancied). Also, Hymnsheet is a Pivotal half-sister to Chorist, so this mile trip should have been just about ideal, whereas Radio Wave is by Dalakhani out of the Rainbow Quest mare Tuning, the 1998 Ebor winner, so this mile trip was probably way short of her best, and the way she was running on at the end when the race was over backs up this theory. She will be an interesting staying filly next season as a three-year-old.
