You're The Top

You're The Top put in a nice performance to win a two-mile novices' hurdle at Ascot on Saturday. The race looked like a match beforehand between the Nicky Henderson horse and the ex-Aiden O'Brien-trained William Hogarth, now with Keith Goldsworthy, and that was how it shaped up after the third-last flight fall of Pterodactyl. Richard Johnson kicked on on William Hogarth around the home turn, and he was flat to the boards approaching the second last as AP McCoy sat motionless on You're The Top. The Henderson horse jumped the second last well, eased to the front over the last and picked up nicely. He didn't go and pull clear, William Hogarth stuck to his task well and will probably be better over further, but You're The Top wasn't doing a great deal in front and he did this nicely. This was the last day on which he was eligible to run in novice hurdles, but he is progressive now, he is still only five, he has run in just six hurdles in his life, and he should be competitive in handicaps off his new mark of 137. However, Henderson said afterwards that he could be going chasing, and he would be a very interesting recruit.
