The Tother One
The Tother One ran a nice race to finish second to Ellerslie George in the Badger Ales Trophy at Wincanton on Saturday. The winner set a fierce gallop from the front and jumped well, having his rivals on the stretch from early in the back straight. The Tother One made nice progress from the pack to chase him, his jumping getting better as the pace increased and as he warmed to the task, but he just had too much ground to make up, and the leader was not stopping. Even so, The Tother One is progressive and should be worth following. He is eight years old, but this was just his third ever steeplechase. It was also his seasonal debut, his first start since last November, and he should come on for it. The handicapper raised him 6lb for this, which is more than fair. He is not now apparently going to run in the Hennessy, which would have been a logical target, but he will be of interest wherever he goes next.
