Dr Livingstone
Dr Livingstone got his hurdling career off to a nice start when winning a Class 3 event on his debut at Leicester on Thursday. He travelled nicely into the home straight on the inside, improved between Sacrilege and Cheshire Prince on the run to the second last, where a fairly significant mistake stunted his progress somewhat. To his credit, he picked up again out of that on bad ground (and he was not racing on the best of it, towards the far side) down to the last flight, at which he just about led, and he kept on willingly, going away on the run-in to post a nice victory. Jimmy McCarthy said afterwards that he was very happy, that the horse was very professional, and that it was a good starting point. A useful performer on the flat, he rounded off his career in that sphere by getting to within two lengths of the highly talented Rainbow Peak in a 10-furlong handicap run on soft ground at Newbury in October. He seems to have taken well to his new role with Charlie Egerton, and he can go on from this now.
