Day Of A Lifetime

The Willie Mullins-trained Day Of A Lifetime put up a really nice performance to win the bumper at Fairyhouse on Saturday. Backed from an opening show of 4/5 to an SP of 2/5 for this, his racecourse debut, the son of King's Theatre settled nicely just behind the leaders under Patrick Mullins in the early stages of the race off a slow enough pace, travelled well into the home straight, moved up nicely in between horses, took it up off Donnacha's Chant at the two-furlong pole, and picked up nicely when his rider asked him, running all the way to the line, where he had five lengths in hand of his closest pursuer Oscars Well, with the pair of them eight lengths clear of the remainder.

It is impossible to weigh up collateral lines of bumper form at this stage of the season, and the slow early pace hurt the final time of this race, but visually this was an impressive performance for this imposing type who would probably have been better suited by a stronger pace. The runner-up is a nice type from the Jessica Harrington yard who should win races, and the weight of money that came for the winner before the off suggests that they think a lot of this fellow at home. The feeling now is that he will be the Mullins number one horse for Cheltenham and, if he is, the 9/1 at which you can currently back him for that contest would be big.
