Dan Breen
Dan Breen ran out a really impressive winner of the opening novices' hurdle at Doncaster on Saturday. It was perhaps significant that Tom Scudamore came up to Doncaster instead of going to Sandown to ride his beloved Lough Derg, and so it proved as he travelled like the winner on this soft ground from a long way out, took it up at the third last and came clear of Tanto Faz - who had finished second in his two previous runs over hurdles and who set a fair standard - over the last to win readily. Winner of two bumpers at Newton Abbot during the summer, this was his first run since, his hurdling debut, and it is significant that David Pipe thought enough of him to put him in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle. He may not be quite up to Dunguib standard, but he is an exciting prospect.
