Dubai Dynamo

Dubai Dynamo ran a lot better than his finishing position in fifth place suggests in the Thirsk Hunt Cup on Saturday. Settled back in the field in the early stages, he got a little hampered leaving the back straight and was well back entering the home straight. There didn't appear to be any reason to panic at that point, it looked like they had gone fairly hard up front and that they would come back. Andrew Elliott was patient enough on Dubai Dynamo, but he just got closed down by Balcarce Nov on his outside a furlong out just when he wanted to go forward. Elliott pulled him around that horse and he finished fastest and widest of all to go down by just over a length, with the leaders not really coming back.

As it turned out, the winner and runner-up, Osteopathic Remedy and Invincible Force, raced in second and first places throughout, so the pace probably wasn't too fast, despite initial impressions, and Dubai Dynamo did well to get into it from so far back. He has run 32 times now, he doesn't have too many secrets, but the handicapper gave him just 1lb for this, it puts him on a mark of 89, a mark off which he won at Wolverhampton in March. He is in fine fettle and he will be worth a second look if he takes his chance in a big-field north of England handicap over seven furlongs or a mile next.
