Brae Hill

Brae Hill gained compensation for his luckless run in a seven-and-a-half-furlong handicap at Chester last month when he won at the same track on Saturday. He was ridden much more prominently this time and, although he raced a little freely, he was able to take it up at the furlong pole and was always holding the late run of Dance And Dance.

Richard Fahey’s four-year-old confirmed the promise of his first run here. He came into the straight travelling well that day but lost all chance when getting involved in a barging match with Webbow before staying on well into fourth. This time, competing over the slightly shorter trip of seven furlongs, he had no such traffic problems and he responded well to pressure up the straight. He was probably value for more than the winning margin suggests. He had given the impression that the extra furlong suited him last time, staying on well after he was hampered, and he saw the seven-furlong trip out well here, he was always holding on inside the final furlong. The son of Fath is progressive, he looks to have improved from three to four and he will be very interesting if given another chance over a mile, he could improve again for stepping back up to that trip. A 5lb hike to a mark of 99 is reasonable, and it would be no surprise to see him back at Chester soon, were he has won twice and finished second once in four runs.
