Woodcote Place

Woodcote Place ran an interesting race in a one-mile handicap at Goodwood last Thursday. Dunn’o and Benandonner took each other on up front from flagfall and between them set a fast pace as a result. Woodcote Place was slowly into stride, which was probably to his favour, as he was then held up off the pace. He travelled really well into the straight, only he and the winner were still on the bridle at the two-furlong marker, but when he did come off the bridle, he seemed to run out of petrol fairly quickly, he just tired inside the final furlong, fading back into sixth.

That said, this wasn't a bad run from Patrick Chamings’s gelding and he gave a strong impression that he would be better suited dropping down to seven furlongs next time. The handicapper may have overlooked this, given that he has dropped him 2lb to a mark of 85. His last three runs have been over a mile, but he raced exclusively over seven furlongs last season and performed really well. His form figures over seven furlongs over the last two seasons read 0222172122. He went largely unconsidered for this event, he was sent off a 25/1 shot, and with his latest form figures reading 006, he could be significantly underrated next time out. If that next run if over seven furlongs, he will be of big interest.
