Treasure Beach

Treasure Beach ran an eye-catching race to finish second to Longhunter in what should prove to be a decent maiden on his racecourse debut. He is by Galileo out of a mare who won over 10 furlongs, so it was probable that this seven-furlong trip was going to be too sharp, and that was how it appeared. Johnny Murtagh's choice from two Ballydoyle horses, he travelled well to the home straight, and just got a little outpaced as Longhunter and the Ger Lyons-trained colt The Reaper quickened from the front, but he kept on well and willingly, stretching his neck out in a likeable manner, to just get up and beat The Reaper for second place. Johnny Murtagh just rode him out with hands and heels, it was a nice introduction from which Treasure Beach will surely have learned and from which he will surely improve. He is a maiden winner in-waiting, and he could prove to be quite good in time.
