Myplacelater

Myplacelater was the filly to take out of the Cheshire Oaks for me. Held up on the rail, fifth of the seven runners, the early pace wasn't strong, with the result that the race developed into a bit of a sprint from the three furlong pole. Myplacelater started the sprint about four lengths behind Gertrude Bell and Acquainted, and she was left a little flat-footed when the sprint began. Also, she had to be switched from the centre of the track to the far rail inside the final furlong, yet she still finished best of all. Although she was only fourth in the end, she was only beaten a length by the winner Gertrude Bell, and she was a length in front of that filly by the time they crossed the path 100 yards beyond the winning line.

A daughter of Where Or When out of a Most Welcome mare who won over a mile and a half, Myplacelater won a good conditions race at Newbury on her previous run, beating a useful sort in the Henry Cecil-trained Bullet Train, a son of Sadler's Wells out of a listed race-winning Danehill mare, who had won a backend maiden on his only previous appearance on a racecourse at Yarmouth last October, with Admission, a useful Highclere horse who had looked good in winning what looked like a hot maiden on his racecourse debut at Yarmouth two weeks previously, back in third. She picked up nicely and she stayed on well that day, actually clocking a time that was two seconds faster than the time that Gertrude Bell clocked in landing her maiden over the same course and distance later in the day.

Myplacelater will be seen to much better effect off a stronger pace, and she may be under-rated now on the back of this run. She is not in the Oaks, but the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot could be the race for her.
