Premio Loco
Premio Loco was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Criterion Stakes at Newmarket last Saturday. Chris Wall’s gelding travelled well out the back off what was only a steady pace early on. He moved up nicely just before the two-furlong pole and then picked up well and showed a fine turn of foot to go past Red Jazz inside the final furlong.
This was a really good performance from Premio Loco, he was friendless in the market and he had to give away 8lb to his rivals on his first start since coming back from Dubai, but still managed to win well and he should come on a lot for this. He was a decent performer last year, he won five out of his seven races, which included two Group 2 races in Germany, and the turn of foot he showed here was his hallmark. He disappointed in his two runs in Dubai, but this was his first run since then and he seemed to relish the return to fast ground. He should come on a lot for this, his trainer's horses are just beginning to run into form after a quiet enough time of it in the early part of the season, and he could be a horse for the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot this Saturday. He has won 10 out of his 19 races and eight of those wins have come over a mile, so he should improve stepping back up a furlong.
