Carraiglawn

Carraiglawn ran an eye-catching race in the Irish Derby at The Curragh last Sunday week. Jim Bolger’s colt was rejected by Kevin Manning in favour of Puncher Clynch, so Davy Moran took the ride and held the son of Rock Of Gibraltar well out the back of the 10-runner field. He came under pressure just before the straight, but he stayed on well inside the final two and a half furlongs to finish amongst the leading group, with a five length gap back to Coordinated Cut.

This was a nice effort from Carraiglawn, given that he only won his maiden at Navan just over a month ago, and he gives the impression that there could be sustained improvement in him. He won a listed race at The Curragh over 10 furlongs on his previous run, and the step up in trip seemed to suit him much better here. He is a half-brother to Soldier Of Fortune and he may even be better over further again. He would not be out of place in some of the top 12-furlong contests later in the season. His trainer thinks that he will continue to progress, and he is interesting.
