Dever Dream

You wouldn't be writing home about the winner of a 0-75 six-furlong fillies' handicap at Lingfield too often, but Dever Dream was so impressive on Thursday, and is so progressive, that she is worth a mention. Backed from morning prices of even money down to an SP of 4/9, she actually looked like she might be in a little bit of trouble as Ryan Moore got into the drive position just before the home turn, but she picked up nicely, came between horses and scorched clear to win by 10 lengths. This was her first run in a handicap, she had won her maiden well on her debut this season at Leicester, just her second ever run, battling on nicely and winning by a fairly cosy half a length in the end, and she was in here off a mark of 72, which obviously under-rated her ability significantly. The handicapper has raised her 18lb for this to a mark of 90, and it would not be surprising if William Haggas brought her out again now fairly sharpish under a penalty before her new mark kicks in, but this was just her third ever race and she could prove to be very good, better even than her new handicap mark.
