Decorative

Decorative was impressive in winning a Class 3 one-mile handicap at Nottingham last Wednesday. After a steady start, Michael Jarvis’s filly was towards the rear of the six-runner field early on, but she travelled well off a decent pace set by Bintalwaadi. Richard Hills slowed the pace down on Bintalwaadi as they turned for home and then wound it up again as they straightened up, and had the whole field in trouble incept for Decorative, who made nice headway up to join her. The pair had it between them from here, but Decorative always looked to have the upper hand, eventually powering away inside the final furlong, with the pair of them finishing six lengths clear of the useful Subtefuge.

This was a fair performance form Decorative. Bintalwaadi won her maiden readily on her previous run at Lingfield and the third filly Subtefuge had won a decent handicap at Warwick in her previous run, beating Invincible Soul into second place, and that horse finished second to Ransom Note in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. Decorative should improve for this, it was only her second ever start, she had not been seen since winning her maiden at Yarmouth last year, a race from which the second, third and fifth have all won since. A knee injury has kept her off the track since, but Michael Jarvis thought enough of her to give her a Guineas entry this year. She took her time to get the upper-hand of Bintalwaadi in the soft ground, but she won her maiden on fast ground and, even though she is by Danehill Dancer, she should be fine on a better surface. She could prove to be very good.
