I'm A Dreamer
I’m A Dreamer is worth another chance after she was left with next to no chance, racing out the back off a steady pace in the hot one-mile listed event, won by Field Day, at Ascot on Friday. The pace was desperately slow in the first half of the race and I’m A Dreamer raced well off it, on the inside rail and towards the rear. Unusually for Ascot, the ground on the rail seemed to be riding slower than the centre of the track, so it is probable that David Simcock’s filly was at a disadvantage when she was trying to make ground on the inside of the track up the straight. She was also blocked off by Blue Angel when trying to go up that runner’s inside, but she still stayed on well when switched to the centre inside the final furlong.
Everything seemed to be against I’m A Dreamer here, the goingstick and the balance of evidence on the day suggested that the middle of the track was faster than either rail and she was chopped off just as she was trying to make progress up the straight. She did run on well at the death when she moved off the rail, but she was never in with a winning chance, and could only keep on to take fifth. She had won all three of her previous races, and despite coming into this as the lowest-rated horse off a mark of 87, she was well backed in a what was a good fillies' listed race, Field Day and Alsace Lorraine and Flora Trevelyan are all smart fillies. The main stories that came out of the race were how impressive Field Day was and the run of Chachamaidee, who finished second after missing the break, so given that, the run of I’m A Dreamer could go well under the radar and she should be under-bet next time.
