Jehanbux
Jehanbux disappointed as a well-supported favourite in a seven-furlong maiden at Ascot on Friday, but given the way the race panned out, he is worth another chance. They went no gallop early on, he pulled really hard as a result and he was one of the first horses off the bridle. He was in among traffic just when he started to pick up, and he had to be switched to the near side, from where he ran on best of all, but could only manage to challenge for third.
The Richard Hannon-trained colt may be under-rated next time on the back of this run, but the slow early gallop was all against him, and he had shaped with a lot of promise on his only previous run at Sandown, also over seven furlongs, three weeks previously. He is bred for a mile or further, and seven furlongs is a minimum for him on this evidence, he was doing his best work at the finish, and he should learn to settle better as he gains in experience. He should be able to win his maiden next time before going on to better things.
