Suruor
Suruor ran a lot better than his finishing position suggests in the seven-furlong heritage handicap at Ascot on Saturday. David Simcock’s gelding was off the bride fully four furlongs out, but he kept finding for jockey Richard Mullen and stayed on admirably into fifth place, finishing best of all.
Suruor probably does really need soft ground to slow the others down now over seven furlongs, and given that he was racing on good to firm ground here, he did really well to finish so close. He rarely runs a bad race and he could be a bit under-rated off the back of this. He would be interesting if connections decided to step him up to a mile, he has only had three starts over that distance, he won one of them and recorded his joint-highest Racing Post Rating on another. He will also be of interest the next time he races over seven furlongs on easy ground.
