Grey Bunting

Grey Bunting is worth another chance after his run was shut off at a crucial time in a competitive 12-furlong handicap at Goodwood on Wednesday. He travelled up with the pace throughout just in behind the leaders. He travelled well into the straight, and still looked to be going well over two furlongs out, but William Buick elected to move him onto the rail, going for a gap that really wasn’t there, up the inside of Jutland, and he got closed off badly, colliding with the rail. Grey Bunting probably would have been involved in the finish had he not been cut off on the rail, which is significant, it was his first try at this trip and he was prominent in a race that was dominated by horses who came from off the pace. Barry Hills’s colt shaped as if the step up to 12 furlongs would suit when staying on well behind Sparkling Smile – who has won since at Doncaster – on his handicap debut over 10 furlongs at Salisbury and when he finished third behind two smart and progressive types in Emerging Artist and Con Artist at Newbury on his previous run. The son of Oasis Dream deserves another chance, this was only his seventh start, he remains progressive and there is a good chance he could be well-underrated next time on the back of this run.
