Invincible Soul

Invincible Soul put up another solid performance to finish third in a hotly-contested 10-furlong handicap at Goodwood last Thursday. Richard Hughes had to use him up a little early on from his draw in stall one just to get in and get a position, he was probably handier than ideal off an early pace that was too fast, the race was dominated by the horses who came from well off the pace with the winner Beachfire disputing last place when they turned for home. Invincible Soul actually looked like the likely winner at one stage, he travelled really well up to the two-furlong pole and took it up for a few strides inside the final furlong, but he was swamped inside the final furlong by the fast-finishing pair Beachfire and Right Step.

This was Invincible Soul’s fifth placing in a row, and it is a little worrying now that he only has one win to his name, a Newmarket maiden on his last start as a two-year-old, but there is still plenty to be positive about. This race had a number of progressive types in it, and Invincible Soul did well to do as well as he did given how it was run. As well as that, he appeared to see the distance out well on his first start over 10 furlongs, which will now open more options for him. The race was run at a really fast pace, the time dipped under standard, and Invincible Soul raced much closer to the pace than Beachfire and Right Step did. His consistency has probably not done him any favours, the handicapper now has him on a mark of 97, but he could have a lot more to offer now over 10 furlongs.
