Tropical Treat
Tropical Treat was a little unlucky in the five-furlong Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood last Thursday. Ralph Beckett’s filly was well-backed beforehand and she travelled well through the race for Jim Crowley and she was just coming to deliver her challenge along with the winner Borderlescott when she was hampered by Spin Cycle inside the final furlong. It is difficult to know by how much it affected her chance, but she definitively would have got closer and she may have even won, she was stopped right in the middle of her run.
Tropical Treat looks well worth another chance after this run, she may have met only slight interference, but the margins are so tight over five furlongs, she was just beginning to challenge after travelling strongly throughout, and she ended up only beaten a length and a half in the end, despite finishing sixth overall. It was a huge run from her, a three-year-old filly in against hardened experienced sprinters. She was well-backed in what was a good quality Group 2 sprint, run at a solid pace throughout, with the time dipping just below standard. The daughter of Bahamian Bounty is still unexposed, this was only her sixth ever run and her first run at Group 2 level, there should be a lot more to come from her.
