Tiddliwinks put in a good effort to finish fourth in a really competitive six-furlong handicap at Goodwood last Friday week. Drawn in stall one, he tracked We Have A Dream, who was drawn in stall two, down the stands rail, and they were only two who raced down the stands rail. But the pair of them were already about four lengths behind the main far-side group by the time Neil Callan decided that he needed to move over and join them at the three furlong pole.  For all of that, Tiddliwinks ran on really well to finish fourth.

This was a big run from Tiddliwinks given that he did most of his racing on the near side at a meeting at which the middle to high numbers seemed to be favoured on the sprint track, and the other four horses who filled the first five places were drawn 14 or higher. He put in a big performance on his previous run as well, when finishing fourth behind Hawkeyethenoo in the Sky Bet Dash at York, showing the benefit of a run two weeks before that, which came after a short break.

Kevin Ryan’s gelding is still rated 9lb higher on the all-weather than he is on turf - he has yet to win on turf - but he has proven himself to be capable on both surfaces now and he should be able to get off the mark soon. Six furlongs is his trip and he will be interesting wherever he turns up next off his turf rating of 93.
