Suited And Booted

Suited And Booted would have been an unlucky loser had he not got up to win the Class 3 one-mile handicap at Newmarket on Wednesday. Always travelling well in behind, he was hampered a little when Dettori went for home on Secretive and took the gap that Richard Hughes undoubtedly had his eye on Suited And Booted. He checked and got going again, by which stage Venutius had kicked on with what looked like a race-winning manoeuvre out in the centre of the track. All day it looked like the centre of the track was riding a little better than either rail, so Richard Hannon's horse may have done even better than it looked in coming from behind Venutius and making his ground on the far side to get up and win. He only got home by a nose in the end, but it was a cosy nose, if such a thing exists, and there was a lot to like about the attitude that he displayed in powering up the hill. The runner-up is another likeably progressive sort, and the pair of them finished clear of Follow The Flag, a decent handicapper and a good yardstick who adds solidity to the form.

Suited And Booted's previous two runs and his previous win were over seven furlongs, but he had won over an extended mile at Windsor on soft ground, he gets this trip well. He was up 6lb for his previous win, and he will go up again for this, but he is progressive and he is worth keeping on side.
