Casual Glimpse

Casual Glimpse ran out a really impressive winner of a six-furlong, two-year-old conditions race at Newmarket on Thursday. He travelled well out the back of the six-runner field in the early stages, he was a bit short of room two furlongs out but he picked up really when Ryan Moore asked him to go through the gap that appeared between Extra Power and Lord Of The Stars, and powered on up the hill to run out an impressive winner.

With Richard Hughes opting to ride Major Dude, it appeared that Casual Glimpse was the second string from the Richard Hannon yard, but he ran out an emphatic winner. Moore was content to wait for a gap and when it appeared, and Casual Glimpse responded impressively when it did. The form of the race looks solid, Roayh was third in the Coventry and Lord Of The Stars had beaten subsequent impressive winner The Paddyman in a maiden over this course and distance on his only previous run. As well as that, the form of Casual Glimpse’s debut has worked out really well, runner-up Chillworth Lad went on to win and then finish second in the National Stakes at Sandown, while the third horse Remotelinx was a close second to subsequent Norfolk winner Approve next time out.

The son of Compton Place didn’t handle the undulations at Epsom when fifth to High Award on his previous run, but this effort here was a truer reflection of his ability. He is among the top Hannon juveniles at this stage, and he will be of interest wherever he runs next. The Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood looks like an attractive option, given that he handled Goodwood's cambers well when he won his maiden there in May.
