Lord Of The Stars

Lord Of The Stars put in a nice effort in finishing second to Casual Glimpse in a six-furlong, two-year-old conditions race at Newmarket’s July meeting on Thursday. Ralph Beckett’s colt travelled well throughout, just tracking the leader Roayh. Still on the bridle going into the final two furlongs, he picked up nicely for Jim Crowley and looked like he would go on and win but he just had no answer to the finishing surge of Casual Glimpse who was an impressive winner on the day.

Lord Of The Stars won really well over this course and distance on his racecourse debut, his only previous run, and the second horse that day, The Paddyman, has already come out and won on his next start by seven lengths. This was another promising effort, the son of Speightstown showed lots of pace, travelled like a good horse and had Roayh, who was third in the Coventry Stakes behind Strong Suit, beaten a furlong out. Ralph Beckett’s youngsters usually improve with racing, and Lord Of The Stars should come on again for this. Also, he may be even better dropped back to five furlongs, he showed so much pace here.
