Sajjhaa
Sajjhaa had disappointed when she was turned over as a warm favourite at Newcastle on her previous run, her first run since the Oaks, but she put that performance behind her when she did it really well from the front to take a competitive fillies’ listed race at Bath on Sunday. Philip Robinson sent her to the front early on, she may have got an easy enough lead but she was easily the best filly in the race, she picked up really well at the two-furlong pole to go clear again and post a good time, over half a second faster than standard.
Sajjhaa has always been really highly thought of, even before her impressive seven-length win on her debut early in the season at Sandown, which prompted her to be something of an ante-post gamble for the Oaks. But that race could have been a fairly traumatic experience for a once-raced filly, the Oaks was full of rough and tumble and she didn’t appear to handle the camber of Epsom at all. This victory could serve as a confidence booster for her now and the drop down in trip to a mile seemed to suit as well, she showed lots of pace early on before quickening up again to outclass her other rivals. She was also wearing a tongue-tie for the first time, which may have helped her a lot as well. Michael Jarvis has always held this daughter of King’s Best in high regard, and she should be well able to step back into Group company now. She probably does need the ground to be good at worst however.
