Anam Allta

Anam Allta put up a big performance to win the six-furlong juveniles' maiden at The Curragh on Sunday from her draw in stall 16 way over on the far side. Fast away, rider Pat Smullen allowed her tack over gradually to join the pace-setters Expire and Independent Girl on the stands rail. The three of them had it between them from fully three furlongs out, but Anam Allta showed a lot of resolution to get the better of that pair, given that she was racing out towards the centre of the track, furthest of the three fillies from the rail. This was just the Invincible Spirit filly's second ever run, and she did shape nicely despite being weak in the market and missing the break on her racecourse debut behind Lake Ontario over seven furlongs at Naas four weeks previously. She can be marked up a fair bit on the bare performance, given that she had to race out in the centre, and she can go on from this now. She showed a lot of pace here, but her dam stayed 12 furlongs, and she should be even better over further.
