Brazilian Breeze
Brazilian Breeze made an encouraging debut in what looked like a good six-furlong maiden at the Curragh on Sunday. Kevin Prendergast’s filly was well-drawn in stall six, but she missed the break and she had to be ridden along at the halfway stage to get into the race. Chris Hayes switched her to the outside just under two furlongs out and she kept on really well to finish fifth, just two lengths behind the winner Anam Alta.
Brazilian Breeze is a typically well-bred Lady O’Reilly horse. She is by Invincible Spirit and out of a Group 3 winning mare, Brazilian Bride, who was also bred and owned by Lady O’Reilly and who was only beaten two and a half lengths by Holy Roman Emperor in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes. Brazilian Breeze looked promising here, she picked up well when she realised what was being asked of her, and she finished the best of the newcomers. The four horses who finished in front of her had all shown decent maiden form coming into this. On this evidence, Brazilian Breeze should appreciate seven furlongs – her dam was not beaten far in the Group 1 seven-furlong Moyglare Stud Stakes – and it shouldn’t be long before she picks up a maiden before going on to better things.
