Ezalli
Ezalli produced a fine performance on her debut run to take a competitive 25-runner 10-furlong maiden at The Curragh on Friday. Eddie Lynam’s filly was held up towards the rear of the large field, she was on the outside of runners for most of the way, and she ended up going wider than ideal on the turn into the straight. However, she was always travelling well for Wayne Lordan, she gradually made progress up the straight and she took it up just before the furlong marker. She picked up really well from there to win by three and a half lengths from Eighteen Summers.
Ezalli, a daughter of Cape Cross, is also a half-sister to Ezima, a three-time listed race winner for Jim Bolger back in 2008. She did this really well for a debutante in a race in which eight of the first 10 home had already had a run. The other debutant Table Mountain boosted the form by winning a decent maiden in good style at Navan 10 days later, when he had Eighteen Summers well behind him. That wasn't Eighteen Summers's true running, a colt who had shown a good level of form on his debut at Listowel, splitting the useful Indicative and Swing Pattern, who didn’t disgrace himself when finishing fifth to Gitano Hernando in the Group 3 Diamond Stakes at Dundalk subsequently.
Ezalli looks like she could be up to listed class at least after this promising performance, and she will be of interest if she takes her chance in a listed race at Newmarket's Champion Stakes meeting. She should be able to build on this run, and a bright future could be in store.
