Rainfall

Rainfall is very much the horse to take out of the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday in terms of the future. She got shuffled right back to the rear of the field at halfway before running on really strongly at the end to finish third, having had to be switched inside several horses.

This run proves that Rainfall does stay the mile strongly even on the soft ground here; she had seemed to not quite see out the mile on the July Course earlier in the year in the Falmouth. She seemed to relish this soft ground – she won her previous start with cut in the ground fairly cosily too – although she did win the Jersey at Royal Ascot on just her third ever start on quickish ground. She is obviously adaptable, but she is probably at her best with a little bit of an ease.

She remains a horse of huge potential who is clearly very good on her day. As she races in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, there is the possibility that she will now be transferred to Godolphin in which case we may be seeing her at the Dubai Carnival in March.
